Embracing Faith and Adventure: My Decision to Take My Remote Work to Rio de Janeiro – Brazil

My Decision to Take My Remote Work to Rio de Janeiro

As a remote worker with a deep passion for travel, I find myself constantly yearning for new adventures. Last year, I quit my job to explore Southeast Asia, and after returning home, I was counting the days until I could hop on a plane again. There’s nothing that fills my heart more than exploring the wonders of the world, embracing nature, and discovering new places. By August 2024, I felt that familiar stir inside me, a strong desire to pack my bags and just leave—destination unknown. But before making any rash decisions, I sought guidance from my heavenly Father. I fasted for a week, praying, “Lord, is it time for me to go back into the field? This is what I love to do. I don’t want to waste my time and youth waiting. I want to fly.” Although I didn’t receive a clear answer, I felt peace in my heart. That was enough for me to book a one-way ticket to Rio de Janeiro.

Why Brazil?

People kept asking, “Have you asked God? Why Rio de Janeiro?” To be honest, I had no specific reason for choosing Brazil. I just felt drawn to it. I love the ocean, samba (even though I can’t dance!), the joyfulness of the people, and the challenge of visiting a country where Spanish isn’t spoken. Brazil seemed perfect. Plus, it was relatively close, so the flights weren’t too expensive.

The decision wasn’t planned out in detail. It was simply a strong feeling I couldn’t shake, and I knew I had to act before the prices went up.

The Answer From God

I don’t usually like to claim that God directly told me to do something, like traveling to Brazil. Instead, I prefer to wait and share my stories afterward, whether the outcome is good or bad. I hold onto Romans 8:28:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

After praying, fasting, and pouring my heart out to God, I took the bold step of booking my ticket, trusting that even if it was a mistake, He would work it for my good.

The Dream of a Friend

Despite booking the ticket, I still had some doubts. “God, is this really from you, or am I acting on my emotions?” About two weeks before my departure, a close friend had a dream about me.

The Dream:

In the dream, I was inside a crystal box, on the phone with someone, and suddenly, I started crying and yelling. I was saying things like, “Don’t tell me what to do! I want to be alone. Let me go! Finally, I know what I want to do with my life.” My friend, who was watching from outside the box, saw me in desperation but felt happy for me. He sensed that I was finally going to make important decisions, even though I was crying.

My Interpretation:

Interestingly, the week before my friend’s dream, I had been crying out to God. I told Him, “I want to be alone. I don’t want anyone telling me what to do. I just want to fly.”

I realized that part of my frustration stemmed from the pressure I felt from others. Whenever I mentioned my love for travel, 50% of people would encourage me, but the other half would question my choices:

  • “You should settle down.”
  • “Get married.”
  • “Have kids.”
  • “Buy a car.”
  • “You’re too old to keep wandering.”
  • “Don’t forget about God while you’re out there.”
  • “Why not go on a mission trip instead?”

But I know in my heart that traveling is what I love to do.

Trusting the Journey

Despite the uncertainties, I continue to pray, asking God to walk with me wherever I go. I trust that, right or wrong, He will work everything out for my good, as He promises in Romans 8:28.

I have no choice but to surrender my heart, emotions, and dreams to Him every day, trusting that He will never leave me or forsake me. Though the path may not always be straight, I ask for strength to endure whatever comes my way.
